Google Site:Georgetown

This website was made with everything that we have created though out the semester in Cloud Computing.
I combined my knowledge of design, calendars, spreadsheets, forms and docs. I tried to make it creative and fun to click on.

Sumo Paint: Photo Enhancement

Original Image

Artistic Adjustment

These images were adjusted using different techniques and creativity. SUMO allows you to go completely wild! I used different fonts and added a bevel, knockout to create a posterized look. One image I wanted to look like a postcard and the final image I wanted for an internet site. The only negative side of SUMO that I have found is the long wait. Once you change a font it takes a while to see the changes especially when using the layer effects.
Before Picture

After picture

This is an example of what can be done in SUMO. This image originally was overexposed with a simple adjustment using curves the picture comes to life.

SUMO Basics

SUMO Basics

Title page for SUMO Presentation

Graphic Sign
SUMO was a lot like GIMP. Their are some similarities to Photoshop as well. The best part of SUMO is its free. I disliked the delay when changing fonts or when using the filters. I loved using the brush tool there were many stencils to choose from which make graphic art beautiful and different every time.

Intro to Zoho

Zoho Pivot Table

Zoho Writer & Zoho Sheet were time consuming to use. When using the spreadsheet I found a lot of hiccups in the way the cells merge and how quickly you can loose your information and not be able to undo or retrieve it. I would not recommend Zoho apps for a business because I did not find it user friendly. Google on the other hand is very user friendly even when they make updates they still make it easy to use. Having loss of connection seemed to be an issue with Zoho as well but not with Google. The only pros in my opinion on Zoho are the way messages pop up and how easily you can get to them its almost like the Facebook messages its instant.

In conclusion, I would side with Google when it comes to running a cloud based business. Google has more to offer and it is very user friendly with hardly any errors.

Spreadsheets-Ad Valorum

Spreadsheets

Spreadsheets on Google are just as user friendly as the Microsoft version. The benefit to the Google version is that you can go online and share your document and also collaborate. Like all Google apps if the internet is down then so are you because you can not access your documents or spreadsheets that would be the only negative.

Google Forms

Google Forms

Google forms are a great way for a business to get responses and tally numbers on a spreadsheet. Its really cool how it timestamps and keeps a running total. The only dislike I have is that if you delete the form there is no way of getting it back. I accidentally did that and clicked undo and it was lost for good. I like how you can creatively design your form too.

Google Presentations-Drawings

Russ Porteous Drawaing-Diamond Clarity
Russ Porteous Drawing

Google Apps

Drawing Techniques

Google Drawings is way more detailed than I knew. Once I sat down and really started fiddling with the different Shapes, I can see how you can create some pretty amazing things. I like how you can create something out of nothing it kind of reminds me of Illustrator. This can be very useful if you need to use a more advanced version of paint. I think Russ Porteous is a true artist in my opinion creating those diamonds and periodic table most definitely took a lot of time. My drawing alone took me over two hours and it wasn't even detailed. He created a Diamond Clarity/Color Grading Drawing. I was very impressed by the drawing app. The only issue I had or disliked about it was the fact when you used the web clipboard it did not always work I received several error messages.

Google Presentations

Dance

Google Presentations is very user friendly. I like how you can animate and get images all in one place theres no searching involved. This allows you to be creative and make a project fun! The way this is set up online is basically the same way as if you paid for Microsoft software but again something Google offers for free. I don't have any dislikes I would rate this 5 stars.

Google Docs Word Processing

Formatted Resume

Document link:

https://docs.google.com/document/pub?id=1m9JNUCo5unHnjMmhz7mg7wLOeJEZYSCCjo7SvDwTqPM

I really think Google has thought of everything and my favorite part is its free! In this assignment I like the fact that we learned about the folders options it is very helpful. I will be using this folders option from now on since I'm taking several subjects and need to keep my Google Docs in order. I was unaware of the templates, which is a great feature. I will be using the cover letter and resume this week because I am looking for a new job and need to update those important documents. Its a fun and interactive way Google and the community can come together to create new templates. I don't quite get why you would need to rate the templates but I'm assuming its just because other sites use a grading scale so Google copied that. In my opinion, the table properties should have more options but just like everything it takes time to develop any new concept. I'm sure eventually Google will create some type of knock-off "Photo shop" too. I will love to be part of that beta test.

Goggle Docs Word Processor

Google Docs Word Processor seems very easy to use in my opinion its just like using MS Word. I am able to use it the same way I would use Word attaching pictures or graphs. The only thing I feel Google needs to correct is the ability to get your docs. Every time I log in and want to use Google's Word it seems like there is a lag. When I try to rename my documents it takes a lot longer than MS Word. At times I even receive error messages. But I like the freedom and accessibility you feel with Google. I can access it from my work computer or late at night on my personnel Mac. No jump drives needed that makes me a happy camper considering I loose them quite frequently.

Google Calendar app

MAY Calendar

JUNE Calendar

JULY Calendar
Google Calendars are very useful for my everyday life I have been using mine since I got my IPhone. They automatically sync all my dates to my phone. I like the fact that this chapter taught me the little colored icons and different apps to make calendars fun! I like how you can incorporate more than one calendar and make visible all important dates. There's really nothing that I can say I dislike about Google Calendars because its easy to input your information and easy to view from anywhere.

At work I use my paper calendar to doodle so that just shows how technology changes everything. I feel as if one day paper calendars will be obsolete and a thing of the past. I am so used to being on my IPhone and checking my calendar daily that using paper is pointless. I feel that Google has come up with an innovative method of keeping track of past dates and current dates to keep you up to date with any important details you need for daily life.

Google Doodles

Google Doodles started in 1998 by simple doodles then a few years later the founders of the company had an intern work on there logo and it became popular now they can make the word GOOGLE into an interesting and different piece of art on a daily basis. These days you can even purchase GOOGLE Doodles t-shirts, mugs all kinds of cool items. Google has an entire team of illustrators working on art. Google 4 Doodle is a contest where young students can enter there drawings and concepts for "GOOGLE" logo and they are awarded amazing prizes. I think that's an excellent way to keep our youth motivated and interested in the art field.

My iGoogle

iGoogle is a new and innovative way to have your own homepage customized the way you want it! Google offers information feeds such as News, Weather, Sports, Horoscope and Celebrity News. I choose to have the following gadgets: Celebrity News- I like to be in the loop on whats going on in Hollywood. Calendar- I will be using this on a daily basis just to keep track of all my assignment due dates. Weather- I selected this just because I want to know how hot it will be for the day. CNN-since my daily job is in Radio this works perfectly for me to keep me on top of the latest breaking news worthy stories of the day. CNN is a trusted news source. Google Docs-is wonderful for students and anyone who is on the go. I loved how I could use the Docs app at anytime or place and load all of my assignments as I finished them. My uploaded docs were dated to help me keep track as well. My Horoscope-I am really into finding out what the stars have in store for me for the day; I'm one of those daily horoscope readers. Facebook-I really enjoy social media, checking on my friends posts. One thing that really bothered me about AOL is all the ads constantly in your space. Google has some but not as much as AOL, I like that.

My Gmail

I've had a Gmail account since 2007 I was introduced to it because of there Picasa app. I adore this because I can instantly load my images and make adjustments just like you can in Photoshop or any other image manipulation software.By taking this course I have gained knowledge on many other facets of Google, not many users are aware of. I truly think Google has an app to fit anyone's need young or old. Personally, I like the tasks list it helps you keep thing in order just like a to-do list. I like checking things off my list it makes me feel like I've accomplished something for the day! I have other email accounts with AOL.The difference between them are Google in my opinion is user friendly. Things are placed where you can find them and they look more attractive.  The Docs app is wonderful for students and anyone who is on the go. I loved how I could use the Docs app at anytime or place and load all of my assignments as I finished them. My uploaded docs were dated to help me keep track as well. I prefer using my Gmail account; my chat always works unlike using AOL's service. The flow of where things are on the page makes it easier to find what you need right away. Yup, I'm a Gmail girl!

Cloud Computing Introduction

I am taking this Cloud Computing course because I want to learn everything there is when it comes to the computer. I figure Dr. Stevens is teaching this course so I will definitely learn alot! I am excited about becoming a BLOGGER! I was so happy Dr S. asked if I would like to take this course. I had no idea SFCC even offered this class. I have learned that anyone can have a BLOG and Google has so much to offer more than most people know. I had no idea about iGoogle until this course. I like Google Docs too because its a great way to show documents when you're always on the run! Cloud Computing has shown me a user friendly way to be organized and to be in control of my personal files in a safe manner. I don't see any disadvantages of Cloud Computing yet; unless you loose service then your not in good shape to use the web. This experience can be so time consuming but  when you look at the overall picture you can save yourself so much time and energy once everything is completely set-up.
